Selfie adalah singkatan dari "Self Potrait" yang artinya foto hasil
memotret diri sendiri, biasanya dengan smartphone atau webcam, lalu
diupload ke sosial media, seperti instagram.
Selfie sesungguhnya bukan hal baru. Foto diri oleh Robert Cornelius
tahun 1839, diyakini sebagai Selfie pertama di dunia. Foto tersebut kini
ditempatkan di Library of Congress, Washington.

Fenomena Selfie merupakan salah satu fenomena paling booming tahun 2013.
Sedemikian fenomenalnya, sehingga Oxford Dictionaries pun
menasbihkannya sebagai Word of the Year. “If it is good enough for the
Obamas or The Pope, then it is good enough for Word of the Year”, begitu
yang ditulis di situs resmi Oxford Dictionaries menyoal Selfie sebagai
Word of the year. Memang, foto narsis oleh Barrack Obama hingga Paus
Francis beberapa waktu lalu sempat mendongkrak kepopuleran “Selfie”.
